The combination of bisoprolol and amlodipine is suggested for the treatment of hypertension in patients who are adequately managed with the individual products given concurrently at the same doses as in the combination, but as separate tablets.
The combination of Bisoprolol and Amlodipine improves antihypertensive and anti-anginal efficacy through complimentary mechanisms of action of the two active compounds: Amlodipine's vasoselective effect (reduction of peripheral resistance) and Bisoprolol's cardio-selective -blocker (decrease of cardiac output).
One pill, taken with or without food, is the suggested daily dose. If the intended therapeutic impact is not achieved, the dose may be increased.
Antihypertensive drugs with a central action (e.g., Clonidine, Methyldopa, Moxonidine, Rilmenidine): When these medicines are taken together with Bisoprolol, they can cause a decrease in heart rate and cardiac output, as well as vasodilation.
CYP3A4 Inhibitors: Combining Amlodipine with strong or moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. protease inhibitors, azole antifungals, macrolides like Erythromycin or Clarithromycin, Verapamil, or Diltiazem) is likely to raise Amlodipine plasma concentrations to clinically significant levels.
Anesthetic Agents: When used together with Bisoprolol, reflex tachycardia may be reduced, but the risk of hypotension is increased.
Cardiac glycosides (Digitalis): When used in combination with Bisoprolol, cardiac glycosides can cause a decrease in heart rate or an increase in atrioventricular conduction time.
Patients with acute heart failure, high grade aortic stenosis, cardiogenic shock, second or third degree AV block, sick sinus syndrome, slowed heart rate, symptomatic bradycardia, symptomatic hypotension, bronchial asthma, and hypersensitivity to Bisoprolol, Amlodipine, or any of the excipients should not take Bisoprolol and Amlodipine together.
Headache, sleepiness, dizziness, and bradycardia are all symptoms of this condition.
Pregnancy: Bisoprolol and Amlodipine should not be taken together during pregnancy unless absolutely essential.
Mothers who are breastfeeding: Bisoprolol and Amlodipine are not known to be excreted in human milk.
No precaution data is available.
