Butamirate Citrate is a cough suppressant that is used to treat dry (non-productive) cough. A recent viral infection could be the source of your dry cough. Butamirate Citrate is also used for cough sedation prior to and after surgical procedures and bronchoscopy in patients. It can be used to treat any type of acute cough, including whooping cough and cough caused by acute lower respiratory tract infections (tracheitis, laryngitis).
Butamirate Citrate suppresses cough by acting directly on the cough center in the brain. Butamirate Citrate is a non-sedating, non-toxic substance that is not related to opium alkaloids chemically or pharmacologically. After oral administration, butamirate citrate is rapidly and completely absorbed. The sustained-release tablet reaches maximum concentration in 9 hours. This is a highly protein-bound organism.
Use in adult:
The plasma level of ebastine rises when it is combined with ketoconazole or erythromycin, resulting in a longer QTc interval. Ebastine has no effect on the pharmacokinetics of theophylline, warfarin, cimetidine, diazepam, or alcohol. The sedative effects of alcohol and diazepam may be amplified.
Intolerance to the active ingredient.
Tolerance of Butamirate Citrate is good.Adverse reactions such as rash, nausea, diarrhoea and vertigo have been observed in a few rare cases, resolving after dose reduction or treatment withdrawal.
During the first trimester of pregnancy, butamirate citrate should be avoided. It can be used if a doctor recommends it for the rest of the pregnancy, but only with caution. In the absence of data on the active substance's elimination in breast milk, the benefits of Butamirate Citrate administration during breast feeding should be carefully weighed against the risks of breast feeding.
Because Butamirate Citrate suppresses the cough reflex, it should not be used in conjunction with expectorants, as this may cause mucus retention in the airways, increasing the risk of bronchospasm and respiratory infections. A doctor should be consulted if the cough lasts longer than 7 days (or more than 3 days in children under the age of 12).
