Fusidic Acid BP 2 percent & Hydrocortisone Acetate BP 1 percent combination cream combines Fusidic Acid's potent topical antibacterial action with Hydrocortisone Acetate's anti-inflammatory and anti-pruritic properties. Fusidic Acid is effective against Staphylococci, Streptococci, and Corynebacteria when applied topically.
Adults: Apply this cream three times a day, gently massaging it into the affected areas for two weeks. If symptoms improve, a shorter course may be considered.
It is not recommended for children under the age of three.
Fusidic Acid may inhibit the metabolism of drugs that undergo extensive biotransformation in the liver if absorbed systemically, but there is no evidence for this. There have been no reports of dangerous drug interactions with topical Hydrocortisone Acetate.
Patients who are hypersensitive to Fusidic Acid, Hydrocortisone Acetate, or other ingredients in the cream should avoid using it. It's contraindicated in bacterial infections caused by non-susceptible organisms, fungal infections, and skin tuberculosis, just like other topical antibiotic/corticosteroid combination preparations.
Fusidic Acid has been known to cause mild irritation at the application site, but this has rarely resulted in therapy being stopped. Hypersensitivity reactions have been reported infrequently. Dryness, itching, burning, local irritation, striae, skin atrophy, atrophy of subcutaneous tissues, telangiectasia, hypertrichosis, and changes in pigmentation are examples of adverse effects.
It is unknown whether Fusidic Acid and/or topical Hydrocortisone Acetate are safe to use during pregnancy or lactation. The potential benefits of using this cream during pregnancy or lactation must be weighed against the risks to the fetus or nursing infant.
Fusidic Acid and Hydrocortisone Acetate should not be used in or near the eye because Fusidic Acid can cause conjunctival irritation. Insufficient absorption may occur when used under occlusive dressings, over large areas, or on the face, scalp, axillae, and scrotum, resulting in adrenal suppression and other systemic effects.
