Indications of Okical DX Tablet

It applies to the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, tetanus, hypoparathyroidism, and bone dysplasia. It is also used as an adjunct to dietary intake in childhood, rickets, and inadequate calcium intake in pregnant and lactating geriatric patients. Other indications include pancreatitis, phosphorus sorbents in chronic renal failure, etc.

Pharmacology of Okical DX Tablet

It is a preparation of calcium and vitamin D3 with calcium carbonate derived from corals. Coral calcium carbonate has a chemical structure very similar to the makeup of human bones. Calcium Coral is similar to other sources but provides better absorption. Vitamin D3 promotes absorption of calcium from the digestive tract and helps maintain calcium balance in the body.

Dosage & Administration of Okical DX Tablet

One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by the physician. Taking in full stomach ensures better absorption.

Interactions of Okical DX Tablet

Oral calcium can reduce the absorption of tetracyclines and fluoride preparations, and a minimum of 3 hours is allowed between the intake of these drugs. Tiaazid diuretics reduce renal excretion of calcium. Phenytoin, barbiturates, and glucocorticoids can induce the metabolism of vitamin D3. Simultaneous intake of certain foods such as spinach, cereals, milk and its derivatives can reduce the intestinal absorption of calcium.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any ingredient, hypocalcemia due to overdose of vitamin D3, hyperparathyroidism, bone metastases, severe renal failure, severe hypercalciuria, kidney stones, etc.

Side Effects of Okical DX Tablet

Flatulence, diarrhea, constipation, and discomfort in the upper digestive tract are rare. Hypercalcemia with long-term use is rarely reported.

Pregnancy

This medicine can be used by pregnant and lactating women as recommended by your doctor.

Precautions

If you have mild Gokarshmunyojun, you may need to be closely monitored while reducing the dose. Plasma and serum calcium levels should be monitored for long-term use with patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. Patients with kidney stones or a previous history should also take precautions.
