Sildenafil Citrate
Adegra is indicated for the treatment erectile dysfunction in men.
Sildenafil is a selective inhibitor of cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) used for treatment of erectile dysfunction.Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor that inhibits the cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate phosphodiesterase (cGMP). It's a medication that's used to treat erectile dysfunction.
The recommended dose of Sildenafil is 50 mg taken approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. However, Sildenafil may be taken anywhere from half an hour to 4 hours before sexual activity. Based on effectiveness and toleration, the dose may be increased to a maximum 100 mg or decreased to 25 mg. The maximum recommended dosing frequency is once per day.
Sildenafil may takes longer time to work if you take it with a heavy meal.
When Sildenafil is taken with organic nitrates for angina, it can cause hypotension. Cimetidine, a drug used to treat gastric ulcers, as well as certain antibiotics like Erythromycin and Rifampicin, and protease inhibitors like Ritonavir and Saquinavir used to treat HIV infection, may raise Sildenafil levels in the blood. Ketoconazole and Itraconazole, both of which are used to treat fungal infections, may impair Sildenafil clearance.
Any component of sildenafil is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to it. Sildenafil enhances the hypotensive effects of nitrates, hence it's not recommended for people who take organic nitrates on a regular or irregular basis.
The side-effects of Sildenafil include dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, headache (including migraine), flushing, dizziness, myalgia, back pain, visual disturbances (non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy has been reported. Drug should be stopped if sudden visual impairment occurs) and nasal congestion. Less common side-effects include painful red eyes, palpitation, tachycardia, hypo/hypertension and epistaxis.
