Sildenafil Citrate
The drug sildenafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction.
Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor that targets cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate (cGMP). It is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Danafil (Sildenafil) increases the impact of nitric oxide (NO) by blocking phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), which is responsible for the breakdown of cGMP in the corpus cavernosum, which causes smooth muscle relaxation and blood inflow.
The recommended dose of Sildenafil is 50 mg taken approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. However, Sildenafil may be taken anywhere from half an hour to 4 hours before sexual activity. Based on effectiveness and toleration, the dose may be increased to a maximum 100 mg or decreased to 25 mg. The maximum recommended dosing frequency is once per day.
Sildenafil may takes longer time to work if you take it with a heavy meal.
When Sildenafil is used with organic nitrates for angina, it might cause hypotension. Cimetidine, a drug used to treat stomach ulcers, as well as certain antibiotics like Erythromycin and Rifampicin, and protease inhibitors like Ritonavir and Saquinavir used to treat HIV infection, may raise Sildenafil levels in the blood. Ketoconazole and Itraconazole, both of which are used to treat fungal infections, may decrease Sildenafil clearance.
Any component of sildenafil is contraindicated in those who are hypersensitive to it. Sildenafil enhances the hypotensive effects of nitrates, thus it's not recommended for people who take organic nitrates on a regular or irregular basis.
Headache, flushing, dyspepsia, nasal congestion, urinary tract infection, altered eyesight, diarrhea, dizziness, and rash are all side effects of Sildenafil.
Category B pregnancy. Sildenafil has not been studied in pregnant women in a sufficient and well-controlled manner. Sildenafil is not recommended for women. Sildenafil has been shown to be teratogenic and embryotoxic in animal studies.
Patients with allergies to other drugs or other substances such as foods, preservatives, or colors, heart or blood vessel issues, or abrupt loss of vision in one or both eyes should be cautious.
