Flucloxacillin Sodium
Flucloxacillin is indicated for the treatment of infections due to Gram-positive organisms, including infections caused by penicillinase producing staphylococci. These indications include:
Flucloxacillin is active against graphic organisms, including the productive strains of the penicillinase. It has little activity against the gram-negative bacillus. Flucloxacillin acts inhibiting the formation of the cellular wall of bacteria. Flucloxacillin is the isoxazolyl penicillin that has combined the properties of hydrolysis resistance from penicillinases, stability and activity of gastric acid against gravostritory bacteria. Flucloxacillin is a particularly useful betryide antibiotic against the production of staphylococci penicillinases. Flucloxacillin kills bacterial flashes, thus interfere with Peptidoglycan synthesis. Peptoglycan is a heteropolymer structure that provides the cell wall with its mechanical stability. The final phase of the Peptidoglycan synthesis involves the completion of the crosslinking with the residue of the Glycine of the Pentaglycin bridge terminal that connects to the fourth residue of the Pentapeptide (Dalanin). The transpeptidase enzyme performed this operation is inhibited by flucloxacillin. As a result, the bacterial interlocutor weakens, the cell swells and then breaks. The flucloxacillin resists the action of the bacterial penicillinase probably due to the chain-induced steric obstacle enables the side avoiding the opening of the lactamic β ring.
Oral administration:
Parenteral administration:
Adult or Elderly:
Children:
Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before meal.
Concurrent Flucloxacillin use may result in an elevated Flucloxacillin level in the blood for an extended length of time.
Flucloxacillin is not recommended for people who are allergic to penicillin.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dyspepsia, and other minor gastrointestinal problems are some of the most prevalent gastrointestinal side effects. Urticaria, purpura, fever, interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, and cholestatic jaundice have all been documented in addition to these rashes.
Flucloxacillin is classified as a pregnancy category B by the US Food and Drug Administration. In pregnant women, there are no sufficient and well-controlled trials. Because animal reproduction studies do not always predict human response, this medication should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Human milk has been found to contain flucloxacillin. When Flucloxacillin is given to a nursing woman, vigilance should be observed.
In patients with hepatic impairment, flucloxacillin should be taken with caution. In the treatment of patients with allergic diathesis, caution is also advised.
