Myorel 10 Tablet from Healthcare Pharma & Generic is Baclofen 10mg. Myorel 10 is used to treat spasticity caused by multiple sclerosis flexor spasms and discomfort, clonus, and muscular rigidity.skeletal muscle spasms caused by rheumatic diseases Injuries to the spinal cord and illnesses of the spinal cord Cerebrovascular accidents, neoplasms, and degenerative diseases of the brain.
Baclofen is indicated for
*Spasticity caused by multiple sclerosis
*Flexor spasm and accompanying pain, clonus and muscle stiffness
*Skeletal muscle spasm caused by rheumatic diseases
*Spinal cord injury and other spinal cord diseases
*Stroke or brain tumor or Degenerative disease
Baclofen inhibits single and multiple synaptic reflexes at the spinal cord level by stimulating GABAB receptors, and GABAB receptors inhibit glutamate and aspartate release. It can also act on the inner part of the spinal canal that causes central nervous system depression. Baclofen also has pain relieving effects.
Adult & children over 10 years: 5 mg 3 times daily, preferably with or after food, gradually increased; max. 100 mg daily.
Children <10 years: Treatment is usually started with 2.5 mg (2.5 ml) given 4 times daily then raised according to requirement. Daily maintenance dose-
Alcohol and other CNS depressants may exacerbate the CNS effects of baclofen and should be avoided, severe aggravation of hyperkinetic symptoms may possibly occur in patients taking lithium. Ibuprofen and other drugs that produce renal insufficiency may reduce baclofen excretion leading to toxicity
Baclofen is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of this product.
The most common side-effects include drowsiness, nausea, dizziness, lassitude, lightheadedness, confusion, fatigue, muscular pain and weakness, and hypotension.
Pregnancy category B3. The safe use of baclofen during pregnancy has not been established. Baclofen crosses the placental barrier. Baclofen should only be used in pregnant women when the doctor considers that the potential benefits outweigh the possible harms. Baclofen is excreted in breast milk, but the evidence so far shows that its amount is very small and is not expected to have an adverse effect on the baby.
Patients with kidney failure or chronic hemodialysis should use a lower dose (approximately 5 mg per day).
Patients with not only seizures, but also mental disorders, schizophrenia, depression, or mania or confusion should be treated with caution and closely monitored because these disorders can worsen.
For patients with epilepsy and muscle spasms, baclofen can be used under proper supervision, provided appropriate anticonvulsant therapy is continued. After stopping baclofen treatment or an overdose, there may be reports of lowered seizure threshold and seizures.
Patients with or with a history of peptic ulcer, cerebrovascular disease, or liver, kidney, or respiratory failure should use baclofen with caution.
Careful monitoring of respiratory and cardiovascular function is essential, especially for patients with cardiopulmonary disease and respiratory muscle weakness.
During treatment with baclofen, neurogenic disorders affecting bladder emptying may improve. However, patients with pre-existing sphincter hypertonia may experience acute urinary retention. Baclofen should be used with caution in these situations.
Baclofen has no significant benefit for stroke patients. These patients also showed little tolerance to the drug.
Appropriate laboratory tests should be performed in patients with liver disease or diabetes regularly to ensure that these underlying diseases have not undergone drug-induced changes.
