Indications of Exler 10
Ebastine is prescribed to treat the following symptoms:
- Allergic Rhinitis, both seasonal and perennial.
- Idiopathic Chronic Urticaria
Pharmaceutical Name of Exler 10
Pharmacology
Ebastine is a long-acting and selective antagonist of the H1-histamine receptor. The blockage of peripheral receptors stays consistent after repeated treatment. Following oral administration, ebastine is quickly absorbed and undergoes substantial first-pass metabolism. Carebastine, a pharmacologically active acid metabolite, is almost completely transformed from ebastine.
Dosage & Administration
Tablet:
- Adults (more than 12 years of age): 10 mg (one tablet) once daily.
- Children (6-12 years of age): 5 mg (half tablet) once daily.
- Children (2-5 years of age): 2.5 ml once daily (upto 5 ml in severe cases such as Perennial Allergic Rhinitis).
- Children (6-12 years of age): 5 ml once daily (upto 10 ml in severe cases such as Perennial Allergic Rhinitis).
Interaction of Exler 10
When ebastine is combined with either ketoconazole or erythromycin, the plasma level of ebastine rises and the QTc interval lengthens. Ebastine had no effect on theophylline, warfarin, cimetidine, diazepam, or alcohol pharmacokinetics. Alcohol with diazepam may have a more sedative effect.
Contraindications
Patients who have a known allergy to Ebastine or any of its components.
Side Effects of Exler 10
Headache, dry mouth, and sleepiness are the most frequent adverse effects. Side effects that are less often mentioned include stomach discomfort, dyspepsia, nausea, and sleeplessness.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Ebastine's safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been verified.
Precautions & Warnings
When taking ebastine in patients with the following disorders, use caution: long QT syndrome, hypokalaemia, and therapy with any drug known to cause an increase in QT interval or inhibit CYP3A4 enzyme systems, such as azole antifungals and macrolide antibiotics. Pregnant and lactating women should avoid using this product. Ebastine's safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been verified. Ebastine should only be taken during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Because it is unknown if ebastine is eliminated in milk, it should not be taken during breastfeeding.
